Illnesses

The past ten days have been very difficult.  First, I started coughing uncontrollably and was diagnosed with bronchitis.  Then Timothy developed a cough and runny nose and was diagnosed with croup.  Finally, on this past Friday, Nathaniel developed a cough and congestion.  We brought him in to the pediatrician’s office on Friday evening because he is so young.  The PA that we saw said he was doing fine at that point, but to keep an eye on him.  On Saturday his cough worsened, then on Sunday morning his cough and congestion were giving him slight breathing trouble.  We made him an appointment and took him in on Sunday morning to see another PA at the doctor’s office.  His pulse oximetry was 91, which is a little low.  He also had to get a chest x-ray taken.  I nearly cried when we put him in the piggostat!  The chest x-ray showed a little irritation in one lung, and the PA diagnosed him as having bronchiolitis.  He had a nebulizer treatment in the office, after which his pulse/ox was 100.  We had a nebulizer delivered to our house, and we gave him treatments every four to six hours until bedtime.

The next day, we went in for a follow-up appointment with our regular pediatrician.  She checked him out thoroughly and said that he was doing just fine by that time.  His pulse/ox was 98.  Fortunately, this health scare was not too serious and she said his cough should go away in a few days.  What a wonderful answer to prayer!

I got my test results today…I have gestational diabetes.  I’m trying not to throw myself a pity party.  I know it’s not the worst thing that can happen, and I am very thankful that my baby has been just fine through everything that has happened to my body.  Still, hearing that I have a condition that needs constant maintenance at least until I deliver is not easy.  I have an appointment with a diabetes educator on Monday at 2pm, so please pray for me that I am able to absorb all the information that I will need about testing and shots and carbohydrates and everything else.  I am blessed to have Patrick’s expertise in this area, so I guess I am ahead of the game a little.  Even so, it’s just all so strange.

Please pray also that the treatment for my condition will help me with other problems that I have experienced, such as constant extreme weakness and fatigue.  I appreciate all the kind words that I have received.  You have encouraged me very much.

This is something that I thought I was past, but due to an oversight, I will have to deal with.  In my appointment with Vivian today, she told me that my blood glucose level was high on my one hour test a few weeks ago.  Due to this, I will have to have further testing tomorrow.  I will get to fast overnight, then go to the lab in the morning where I will have a sugary drink, then wait one hour for a blood test, then one more hour for another blood test, then one last hour for another blood test.  I will not get the results of this test for at least a couple of days, so it will probably be Friday or Monday afternoon before I know anything.  Hopefully the high result on my one hour test was a fluke, and the three hour test will be within the normal range.  We would appreciate your prayers as I go in for this test in the morning.
